Call for Applications: CYG-CENESS Research Fellowship 2022.
CTBTO Youth Group (CYG) and Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS) are excited to announce the launch of a call for applications for the Second Edition of the CYG-CENESS Research Fellowship.
CYG-CENESS Research Fellowship aims to provide the new generation of nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament experts with an opportunity to build their professional network by connecting the participants with prominent experts and officials, as well as to conduct and publish their research on CTBT-related issues.
One of the key elements of the Second Edition of the Fellowship is an online seminar course which will take place over August-December 2022. The seminar sessions will focus on the role of CTBT in the global nonproliferation regime, potential ways of facilitating the Treaty’s entry into force, international experience with its ratification, and CTBT-related regional issues, including in the Middle East and on the Korean peninsula.
Among distinguished scholars and practitioners who joined the First Edition of the Fellowship as speakers were the former U.S. Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Grigory Berdennikov, EU Special Envoy for Non-proliferation and Disarmament Marjolijn Van Deelen, and U.N. Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu.
Another central element of the program is the preparation of research papers on critical CTBT-related issues. The fellows will be invited to prepare the papers in groups and will have access to the network of CENESS and CTBTO-affiliated experts to support their research. The papers will be published by CTBTO in an annual electronic magazine. Moreover, CENESS will assist the fellows by submitting the best papers to leading nonproliferation and disarmament-focused outlets for potential publishing. A collection of papers prepared by the 2021 cohort of fellows can be found here.
Follow this link to apply for the CYG-CENESS Research Fellowship 2022 until August 17, 2022. Due to the limited amount of spots available the applications will be subject for review by the organizers.
