The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) is excited to announce the launch of the Southeast Asia and Pacific Educational Online Course: “Deep Dive into The Nuclear-Test-Ban”.
To build upon momentum accumulated during the 25th anniversary year of the CTBT and considering strong interest of States in the Southeast Asia and Pacific region to the CTBT, the CTBTO will organize on 20-24 June a training program that aims to:
- raise awareness about its verification regime’s contribution to civil and scientific applications such as disaster risk and climate change mitigation in the region, and
- support the advancement of the most overarching goal of the CTBTO: entry into force and universalization of the CTBT.
During the 5-day course, participants will receive training covering basics of nuclear testing and the nuts and bolts of the CTBT/O. The participants will attend webinar series lectured by prominent experts and diplomats, conduct tabletop exercises on CTBT, nonproliferation and disarmament issues, and engage with distinguished scholars and practitioners. In the end, they are to develop their proposal for supporting CTBT’s universalization in the region and present it in front of experts’ committee.
Participants who successfully complete this five-days course will be awarded a certificate for their accomplishment.
Since many communities in this region have suffered the scourge of nuclear testing and continue to bear the burden of the transboundary and intergenerational damage, the substance of the course is of high importance.
The project aims to help promising young scholars to build their professional network by giving them access to top professionals and experts in the field of nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation.
