About the Opportunity 

This year marks two historic milestones: 

  • 10 years of the CTBTO Youth Group 

  • 30 years since the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty opened for signature 

At this pivotal moment, the CYG is entering a new phase.  

The Steering Committee will serve as the core leadership body of the CYG. Members will: 

  • Set strategic direction 

  • Oversee implementation of initiatives 

  • Ensure accountability and institutional continuity 

  • Represent the CYG in engagement with the CTBTO and external partners 

  • Strengthen the Group’s impact as a global youth-led platform 

This is a voluntary leadership role for individuals ready to assume responsibility and contribute meaningfully to the future of the CYG. 

 

Mandate and Commitment 

Duration: One-year mandate, with the possibility of renewal 
Location: Fully remote 
Time commitment: Approximately 8 hours per month (flexible and compatible with academic or professional responsibilities) 
Remuneration: This is a voluntary position; no financial compensation is provided 

 

Available Positions 

The CYG is seeking candidates for the following Steering Committee roles: 

  • President 

  • Vice-President 

  • Secretary 

  • Global Projects and Regional Engagement Coordinator 

  • Communications and Outreach Coordinators (2 positions) 

  • Partnerships Coordinator 

Each position carries defined responsibilities contributing to governance, outreach, membership engagement, partnerships, and project delivery.  

 

Key Responsibilities (Across Roles) 

Steering Committee Members will: 

  • Provide strategic leadership and ensure alignment with the CYG Statute 

  • Coordinate and oversee regional and global initiatives 

  • Manage internal communication and institutional documentation 

  • Strengthen partnerships with youth organizations and relevant institutions 

  • Enhance digital outreach and engagement strategies 

  • Support the Annual General Meeting and Annual Report 

  • Promote inclusive, multilingual, and globally representative participation 

The Committee will internally assign and refine responsibilities as needed to ensure effectiveness and cohesion. 

 

Eligibility and Requirements 

Applicants must: 

  • Be a registered member of the CYG 

  • Demonstrate a genuine commitment to the mission of the CTBT 

  • Show leadership experience within youth, academic, professional, or community initiatives 

  • Possess strong communication skills and collaborative capacity 

  • Demonstrate initiative, reliability, and accountability 

Additional assets include: 

  • Experience in youth engagement or event organization 

  • Familiarity with digital tools and social media outreach 

  • Multilingual abilities 

  • Backgrounds in peace and security, science and technology, international law, public diplomacy, communications, social activism, or related fields
