Call for Applications: CTBTO Research Fellowship 2024

Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) is excited to announce the launch of a call for applications for the Fourth Edition of the CTBTO Research Fellowship.

The fellowship program organized in cooperation with the Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS) is designed to provide a platform for the new generation of experts in the field of nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament to enhance their knowledge, skills, and professional networks.

it will offer an unique opportunity for participants to engage with prominent experts and officials, as well as to conduct and publish their research on critical issues related to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). Participants will benefit from an online seminar course scheduled to take place from late August to December 2024. The sessions will cover a range of topics, including the role of the CTBT in the global nonproliferation regime, potential ways of facilitating the Treaty’s entry into force, national experiences with ratification, and related regional challenges.

During previous editions of the Research Fellowship, prominent scholars and high level practitioners such as the CTBTO Executive Secretary Dr. Robert Floyd, U.N. Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, former Head of the Russian Delegation to the Negotiations of the CTBT Amb. Grigory Berdennikov, former Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Ms. Rose Gottemoeller, former Head of the Chinese Delegation to the Negotiations of the CTBT Amb. Sha Zukang, former Foreign Minister of Indonesia Dr. Marty Natalegawa and various other practitioners shared their insights with participants.

The opening high-level session with the Executive Secretary of the CTBTO Dr. Robert Floyd is scheduled to take place on the International Day against Nuclear Tests, August 29 (Thursday), at 16.00 CET.

The selected participants will attend online sessions weekly on Mondays and prepare articles in a multinational research group on critical CTBT-related issues. Papers will be published in an annual electronic magazine by the CTBTO.

To successfully complete the program and get a certificate, the selected participants need to attend at least 80% of all sessions and successfully prepare research papers.
